Alx Little ready to lead soccer, softball

By John Davis

Community Relations Director

Since the age of 4, Alx Little has been focused on the sport of soccer. Little, who was recently hired as an athletics manager for the Oxford Park Commission, played soccer for a grand total of 17 years. Little’s love for the sport ultimately inspired him to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration from Belhaven University.

“I chose Sports Administration because I wanted to stay involved in sports after being done with soccer and learn the business/administrative side of sports, while also helping others find a love for it as well,” said Little, who is now the administrator in charge of youth and adult soccer for the OPC. “I like all sports, but my absolute favorite is soccer. I started playing when I was 4 at Tupelo Park and Rec, then played travel or select soccer from age 11 to 16. I played high school soccer, then moved on to playing in college for two years at Itawamba Community College and finishing up playing for two more years at Belhaven University.”

The 2019 spring soccer season begins Feb. 19th, and it will be the first opportunity to really meet the people of Oxford and Lafayette County in mass. One of the things that attracted Little the most about applying for the opening at the OPC was the feel he got from the community.

“Honestly, I love the sense of community and how everyone makes you feel like a family within this organization,” Little said. “It makes it really easy to work with people that have a genuine care to help others more than themselves.”

Little, who will also oversee the adult and youth softball programs, said his main goal for 2019 was to learn as much as possible about his new position.

“I want to learn as much as I can so I can perform every task to the best of my ability,” Little said. “Also, I’m looking forward to seeing how I grow within this company as I learn more about how things work on a day-to-day basis.”

During moments of free time, Little said he still enjoys playing soccer, or golf, keeping in shape, and traveling with friends.
