MHSAA-OPC partner for state Pickleball championships

The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) has selected the Oxford Park Commission (OPC) to host the inaugural MHSAA High School Club Pickleball State Invitational.

The idea for the event began when Seth Gaines, Executive Director of the Oxford Park Commission, approached MHSAA Executive Director Ricky Neaves earlier this year to explore the possibility of introducing pickleball at the high school level. Following Gaines' presentation to the MHSAA Legislative and Executive Board, the proposal received unanimous support, officially designating Oxford as the host site for the first ever state invitational event.

The event marks another milestone in the growing partnership between the Oxford Park Commission and the MHSAA, both o f which have collaborated on multiple successful state level tournaments in recent years.
Beyond advancing high school athletics, the event is expected to have a strong tourism and economic impact for the City of Oxford, attracting players, families, and spectators from across Mississippi.

"We're honored to once again partner with the MHSAA to bring a first of its kind to Oxford,"
said Seth Gaines, Executive Director of the OPC. "The event not only celebrates the rapid growth of pickleball, but it also highlights how sports tourism continues to play a vital role in Oxford's local economy."

"This partnership with the Oxford Park Commission allows us to further our mission to enhance the educational experience of students and provide equitable opportunities, positive recognition, and learning experiences," said MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves. "We appreciate the vision of Seth and his team as well as the continued support of Visit Oxford."

The 2026 MHSAA High School Club Pickleball State Invitational will be held at Stone Park, featuring multiple divisions and drawing competitors from schools statewide. Additional event details, including registration and spectator information, will be announced in the coming weeks.
