The message below is from our Executive Director Seth Gaines regarding the upcoming week at the Oxford Park Commission, from the use of facilities to classes, to youth basketball games re-scheduled, and other related recreation activities.

Hello Oxford Community,
Like each of you, we are eager for life to return to normal as soon as possible. However, due to the impacts of Winter Storm Fern, it may take several weeks for all Oxford Park Commission (OPC) programs to return to their regular rotations and schedules. We appreciate your patience and are proud that the Oxford Activity Center is playing a role in assisting community members who are still in need during this challenging time.
Because the Oxford Activity Center is currently being used as a temporary shelter, all programs and activities at that facility are paused for the time being. OPC staff are actively exploring ways to resume programs as quickly and safely as possible.
Facility Closures
Both Activity Centers will be closed on Sunday, February 1.
Beginning Monday, February 2. The Coach Howell Activity Center will be the only facility open for public recreation.
As of Saturday night, January 31, the Coach Howell Center does not have running water. Restrooms inside the facility will not be accessible until water service is restored.
Portable restrooms (Port-a-Johns) are available outside both Activity Centers for use during this time.
Program Updates
Pickleball will resume at the Coach Howell Center on Monday, February 2, at its normal start time. As usual, the gym will open to free play at 12:00 noon.
Youth Basketball games scheduled at the Coach Howell Center (Courts 1, 1A, 1B, 2, 2A, and 2B) will continue as planned.
Games originally scheduled at the Oxford Activity Center are postponed.
Our Athletics staff is currently working to determine make-up dates. Possible days include Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. Additional details will be shared as soon as they are finalized.
LLO Exercise Programming will move to the Stone Center this week. Equipment will be limited, so participants are encouraged to bring any personal equipment they may need.
For independent contractor led classes, OPC Program Staff are actively working with instructors to identify alternative spaces so classes may continue as soon as possible.
Gymnastics and Stunt and Tumble programs will continue as scheduled in the gymnastics room beginning Monday, February 2.
Please ensure participants bring bottled water, as the Coach Howell Center does not currently have running water.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support as we navigate these temporary changes. Please note that program operations may adjust further as needed based on city requirements and facility conditions. We will continue to communicate updates as information becomes available.
