Learn something new, and burn off some energy after school with the Oxford Park Commission. Students of Central Elementary are welcome to participate in a new pilot sports program hosted after school in the Oxford Activity Center by staff members of the Oxford Park Commission, and independent contractor sports recreation staff. This new program is free, and it will introduce non-traditional sports to participants in the coming weeks.
The goal of this initiative is to provide students with a positive introduction to new sports, encourage active lifestyles, and build confidence through teamwork and skill development.
Co-ed lacrosse training will begin on Wednesday, November 5 in the OAC with instructor David Dorris, a former football and lacrosse athlete at Rhodes College in Memphis. Lacrosse is slated to run from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Both of these sports options will run through the month of November until the Thanksgiving break from school. They will then resume the first week of December and continue until students leave for the Christmas break. Additional sports, and dates, are being explored currently and will be based on how participation goes for these first 2 offerings.
