The Oxford Park Commission strives to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Oxford by providing professionally designed, comprehensive recreational and leisure programs and services. To accomplish this mission, OPC:
  • Provides diversity in programming opportunities to meet the changing needs and interests of users.
  • Maintains safe, well-managed facilities and programs to ensure opportunities for participation by all.
  • Fosters the development of knowledge, interests, and behaviors that promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • Encourages the development of positive attitudes regarding participation and sportsmanship.
  • Offers programs and services at a cost that is affordable to all.

Where did you go to school?

What are your current job responsibilities?

It is my job to oversee all areas of the Oxford Park Commission.


What do you like most about your job?

I like the fact that I work with a tremendous staff.  All of our employees are really dedicated to the job of providing quality recreation for the community.  I also enjoy the programming side of recreation which involves working with the public.


Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

My grandfather (Max Juchheim) was a fighter pilot in WW II.  He is known as Mississippi’s Ace Pilot because he is responsible for 7 kills, 2 train convoys destroyed, and numerous enemy tanks destroyed.  He escaped from prison camp (twice) after being shot down and held in POW camp for nearly one year.


What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Stood at the “tomb of the unknown soldier” and watched the changing of the guards


If you had a theme song, what would it be?

“The Breeze” – by Lynard Skynard


If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Easy, riding my Harley Davidson motorcycle.

What are your current job responsibilities?
As Director of Volunteer Oxford, the community's volunteer center, it is my responsibility to match volunteers to service in the Lafayette, Oxford and University area. Working with local nonprofits to help address special project and event needs is part of my job, as well as helping volunteers find the perfect volunteer opportunity for them. Our program compliments that RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) in that we provide volunteer opportunities for individuals in Oxford and Lafayette County 55 years of age and younger. The purpose of Volunteer Oxford is to enrich the community's quality of life through significant community service work.     

What do you like most about your job?
I love that every day is different. Working with the public & those looking to serve makes my job easy fun & rewarding on so many levels. Meeting new people who represent the community's strong sense of volunteerism every day is a blessing & seeing their spirit of volunteerism make volunteer events and projects come to fruition is highly rewarding.

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.
I love to horseback ride.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?
I've been blessed to have a lot of awesome life experiences, but the coolest thing I've ever done is running the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC in 2008. It was an eye-opening experience & made me so proud to train hard for a 26.2 mile race but also see our military heroes running alongside me in the nation's capital.

If you didn't have to work, what would you be doing?
Running, working out or visiting my family in Copiah County and playing with my two-year-old nephew

Current Job Responsibilities: As LLO Director, I am responsible for establishing, coordinating and providing leisure and recreational outlets that meet the social, physical and health & wellness needs for retirees and persons over fifty years of age residing in the Oxford and Lafayette Community.

 

What I like most about my job:The sound of laughter, the sight of smiles, and the feeling of satisfaction when someone says to me, “I’ve been waiting for something like this to do”.

 

Something most people don’t know. I don’t use a microwave for “every” meal.

 

Coolest thing I’ve ever done:  Holding my family’s new born babies in my arms. A far second was completing my bachelor’s degree in three years which meant that I was student teaching at the age of 20.

If I didn’t have to work, what would I do: Most folks who work in “recreation” are still trying for figure that out! I’m pretty sure that I would still be working.

 
Bubba Robinson

Where did you go to school?

?

What are your current job responsibilities?
                

I am responsible for all recreational and park facilities in the City of Oxford.  I assist the Director whenever needed in all situations.  I am responsible for the upkeep of the inventory program, conducting and maintaining an emergency management program for our department, and I serve as Aquatics Director for the city pool.


What do you like most about your job?
                     

I enjoy dealing wit the people of the community and meeting new people.  It is always a joy to see the parents and children enjoying themselves at the parks and at the pool.


Tell us something about you that most people would not know.
      

I am a high school official for football, volleyball, and softball.  I umpired the USA Olympic Women’s Softball game.


What is the coolest thing you have ever done
  

I went on a horse drawn sleigh ride with my wife in Lake Tahoe.

Answering the telephone, registering customers and cooking for the staff.


What do you like most about your job?

Working with the OPC/FNC family

I have the weakest stomach in America.


What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Not a thing; I am so boring.

Shopping and of course, getting my hair done twice a week.

Where did you go to school?

I attended Oxford City Schools c/o 1992.  I have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Rust College in Holly Springs, MS c/o 1996.


What year did you join the staff at OPC?

I started with OPC September 2008.


What are your current job responsibilities?

I am the bookkeeper. I handle ALL financial responsibilities as well as I assist with registration, answering the telephone and wherever I am needed.


What do you like most about your job?

I LOVE the fact that WE are all ONE big happy family at OPC.


Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

I sing.  My sisters and I sing in a Gospel Quartet.


What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Came to work at OXFORD PARK COMMISSION.

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

I would be volunteering at my children schools daily.

I like that I help people relieve stress through recreation. I’m a recreation doctor and my prescription to you is OPC RECREATION!!!!

I have a huge collection of unopened Hot Wheels Car. I have around 530 cars.

What are your current job responsibilities?

Responsibilities include overseeing the Oxford Activity Center.  This includes facility care inside and out, working with program instructors to ensure they have all they need to operate their classes, supervision of all customers as they enter the building, overseeing the summer day camp program, running the OPC Youth Basketball League, working with RSVP to host “lunch-n-learn”, overseeing the rental space within the building, etc


What do you like most about your job?

Working with people and watching the excitement on a person's face when they accomplish something for the first time.


Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

I rode my motorcycle round trip to Sturgis, SD.


What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Helping an elderly lady repair her roof at no cost to her.  That was a good feeling.

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Probably work anyway…..a man can only hunt and fish for so long.

That I have a BS in Engineering in Computer Science and I love NASCAR and football.  (play fantasy sports for both)


What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Hung off of a cliff in San Francisco during a leadership training exercise.

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Sitting in my sunroom reading a book, watching TV or listening to music, occasionally volunteering and traveling.
