What is the Retired & Senior Volunteer
Program (RSVP)?
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) helps people ages 55
and older find service opportunities in their home communities. RSVP
participants serve from a few to over forty hours a week in private
non-profit organizations. RSVP involves seniors in services that match
their personal interests and make use of their skills and lifelong
experiences.
If you are interested in
volunteering with RSVP at the hospital, hospice, or after-school tutoring
programs,
please call 232-2377
How does RSVP benefit communities?
RSVP volunteers provide hundreds of community services, ranging from
tutoring children, museums, Meals-On-Wheels, nursing homes, income
tax assistance, transportation, Triad (seniors and law enforcement working
together) and many more stations.
Who can participate in RSVP?
RSVP participants must be at least 55 years of age. Interested applicants
should call the Lafayette County RSVP project office. Director will meet
with applicants to discuss interests and service opportunities.
Funding Source:
The Lafayette County RSVP is funded by the Corporation for National
Services, City of Oxford, United Way and Lafayette County Board of
Supervisors. Sponsored by the Oxford Park Commission.
TRIAD
The Radio Information and Dedication Program (TRIAD), sponsored by RSVP, now
can be heard on WXOD95.5. Tune in each Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. and
listen to the prattle of Jim Pratt and Dr. Ed Wood the "scam man." They play
the music of "Stardust" and many other oldies, and they provide much needed
information to seniors.
Also, look in the LaffaShopper each week for "Tips, Treats & Threats"
Written by a TRIAD volunteer, this column will contain important information
for seniors.
TRIAD meets at 10:00 on the third Wednesday of each month in the RSVP Senior
Center on the Square in Oxford. Anyone interested in seniors and law
enforcement working together is welcome to come and join us.
