The Oxford Park Commission sponsors a fastpitch league for girls ages 5-14. The league is sanctioned with A.S.A. Softball. The age of the child as of December 31st of the previous year will determine the age group. There are five leagues offered in OPC Softball:
T-Ball
This is an introductory level for 5 & 6 year olds designed to teach the very basic fundamentals of hitting off a tee, catching, throwing, and running the bases.
Coach Pitch
This league for 7 & 8 year olds is a follow up to t-ball. However, in this league hitters are required to hit pitches thrown by their coach and not from the tee. Like T-Ball, this league is used as an instructional league for hitting, catching, throwing, and running the bases.
9-10 League
This is the participant’s first taste of fastpitch softball. This league is the first time batters will face girls pitching. The action is fast and play is exciting.
11-12 League
This division is a step up from the Minors division. The pitching distance is greater.
13-14 League
This is the oldest age group offered by OPC. The speed of the game in this league is much faster as the girls become bigger, faster, and stronger.
All games for youth softball will be played at FNC Park. Games are generally played Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. |
