Synopsis of Tryouts:

Tryouts are open.  All are welcome to attend.

  • Players all evaluated on athleticism, ability, skill, and attitude.
  • The number of teams formed depends on the number of qualified players in attendance.
  • Administrative members will attend tryout sessions and be available to answer any questions you may have.
  • There is no guarantee that a player will be selected for any team from year to year or that a player will play for a specific coach from year to year.
  • Coaches will notify all players who attended tryouts of their status no later than seven days after the final tryout session. Should a child not make a team, he/she will be given a player evaluation form filled out by the coach.
  • Players should make every effort to attend both sessions and should communicate any scheduling conflicts with the coach conducting the age groups tryout.
  • Final player selections are made without regard to race, religion, creed, national or ethnic origin.
  • All players wishing to “play up” (younger players on an older team) should submit a request to the Director of Coaching and Youth Athletic Director prior to tryouts. These requests will be dealt with on an individual basis and at the judgment of the Director of Coaching and Youth Athletic Director.

Recreational Soccer Program:

The Oxford Park Commission sponsors a youth soccer program for kids age 4 – 15. This league is affiliated with the Mississippi Soccer Association and the Oxford Soccer Association. July 31st is the league age determination date for all players for fall soccer. July 31st is the league age determination date for all players except NEW 4-year- olds for spring soccer. New 4-year-olds must be 4 by December 31st preceding the spring season.  Ages are broken down into the following recreation leagues:

U-6
An introductory level designed to teach the very basic fundamentals of soccer.  Participants in this league play a "short sided” 3 v 3 format. Goalies are not allowed.  Leagues are single age group leagues.

U-8
A follow up to U-6, however, this league plays a 4 v 4 format.  Children continue to play in single age group leagues.

U-10
This is the first league in which goalies are allowed and scores are recorded. Teams are drafted based on coaches' ratings during an observation clinic. Game format is 6 v 6.  The top two teams from the U-10 division have an opportunity to participate in district tournament play.

U-12
This league plays a full side 8 v 8 format.  Teams are drafted based on coaches' ratings during an observation clinic. The top two boy and girl teams within this age group will advance to district play.

U-14 & U-16
This league plays a full side 11v 11 format as well.  12 and 13 year olds are combined in the U-14 age group; 14 & 15 year olds in the U-16 age group. Teams are drafted based on coaches' ratings during an observation clinic.

All games for youth soccer will be played at FNC Park.  Games are generally played Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.
