Youth Athletics Soccer:Soccer is Oxford Park Commission’s biggest youth sport as over 800 kids participate each season. Soccer is run under the guidelines of Mississippi Soccer Association. Baseball:The Oxford Park Commission baseball program is affiliated with Dizzy Dean Baseball. The program is designed to teach kids the fundamentals of baseball in a less competitive setting. Girl’s Softball:The Girl’s Softball program is designed to teach young women the skills and rules of Fastpitch softball. The programs is played under A.S.A. rules .Flag Football:Youth flag football is co-sponsored by the NFL, Inc. in a program called NFL Flag. The program is designed to teach kids sportsmanship, teamwork, and football skills. Basketball:The youth basketball program offered by OPC is designed to let kids develop their basketball skills in a league that emphasizes good sportsmanship and teamwork.
Participants are required to register with the Oxford Park Commission. Information on the child such as name, address, phone number, and date of birth are required. Registration is open for Six (6) weeks with dates being announced each year.
Volunteer Coaches are needed on a yearly basis.Any one interested in applying for a volunteer coaching position should drop by the OPC main office Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at 310 South 15th street. Also, if you would like to coach your child, please let us know while registering.
Teams within the Oxford Park Commission youth sports leagues are formed according to a specific draft system. All participants are evaluated and assigned a power rating in skill areas of the sport being played. Once evaluated, teams are formed according to each of the power ratings. This process helps to insure that all teams have an equal opportunity to be competitive. |
