Rob Boyd Bio

Where did you go to school?

High School – West Laurderdale High School – 1987

B. S. – Ole Miss – 1992

M. S. – Ole Miss – 1995

What year did you join the staff at OPC?

October of 1995

What are your current job responsibilities?

It is my job to oversee all areas of the Oxford Park Commission

What do you like most about your job?

I like the fact that I work with a tremendous staff.  All of our employees are really dedicated to the job of providing quality recreation for the community.  I also enjoy the programming side of recreation which involves working with the public.

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

My grandfather (Max Juchheim) was a fighter pilot in WW II.  He is known as Mississippi’s ace pilot because he is responsible for 7 kills, 2 train convoys destroyed, and numerous enemy tanks destroyed.  He escaped from prison camp (twice) after being shot down and held in POW camp for nearly one year.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Stood at the “tomb of the unknown soldier” and watched the changing of the guards

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

“The Breeze” – by Lynard Skynard

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Easy, I would be riding across country with my beautiful wife on our Harley Davidson motorcycle.

 

Bubba Robinson Bio

Where did you go to school?

South Pontotoc High School (1985) – Itawamba Community College (1987) – University of Mississippi (1989)

What year did you join the staff at OPC?      

1994

What are your current job responsibilities?                

I am responsible for all recreational and park facilities in the City of Oxford.  I assist the Director whenever needed in all situations.  I am responsible for the upkeep of the inventory program, conducting and maintaining an emergency management program for our department, and I serve as Aquatics Director for the city pool.

What do you like most about your job?                     

I enjoy dealing wit the people of the community and meeting new people.  It is always a joy to see the parents and children enjoying themselves at the parks and at the pool.

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.      

I am a high school official for football, volleyball, and softball.  I umpired the USA Olympic Women’s Softball game.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done  

I went on a horse drawn sleigh ride with my wife in Lake Tahoe.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?    

Fishing

Instructional Programs, Seniors, Therapeutic Recreation, Events

What do you like most about your job?

I like that I help people relieve stress through recreation. I’m a recreation doctor and my prescription to you is OPC RECREATION!!!!

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

I have a huge collection of unopened Hot Wheels Car. I have around 530 cars.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Meeting one of the best NBA players - Magic Johnson

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Still working by owning my sports apparel store or Hotel or Scooter/Toy Store

 

 

Jeff Wells Bio

Where did you go to school?

What year did you join the staff at OPC?

May 2001

What are your current job responsibilities?

Responsibilities include all adult sports programs (soccer, softball, flag football, basketball and wiffleball), as well as, the youth softball program.  I assist with the youth basketball & youth soccer programs.  I also maintain the OPC website.

What do you like most about your job?

Interacting with the people participating.  I like getting to know them and watching them compete in the various sports.

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

My son was born on my birthday.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Camped in Yosemite National Park and hiked the trail to the top of Half Dome.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

Ride Through the Country

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Enjoying time with my son, fishing, and traveling

 

CJ Ketchum Bio

Where did you go to school?

Ole Miss

What year did you join the staff at OPC?

2008

What are your current job responsibilities?

I am in charge of youth athletics, which includes soccer, baseball, and football.  I market the leagues, organize the teams, find coaches, find refs, order uniforms, make schedules, and purchase equipment and insurance.

What do you like most about your job?

I really enjoy working with sports and being able to go to the fields on a daily basis to watch the kids play.

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

I played baseball at Ole Miss for three years and won the sec west in 2005.  We also won the conference tournament in 2006, and I was named to the all tournament team.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Meeting Brad Freeman.  No, really, playing ball in the Southeastern Conference is the coolest thing I could have ever done.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

"Poison" by Bel Bive Dvoe or "Safety Dance" by Men at Work

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

I would open a surf shop/skate board shop on the beach

 

Sam Pryor Bio

What are your current job responsibilities?

Responsibilities include overseeing the Oxford Activity Center.  This includes facility care inside and out, working with program instructors to ensure they have all they need to operate their classes, supervision of all customers as they enter the building, overseeing the summer day camp program, working with RSVP to host “lunch-n-learn”, overseeing the rental space within the building, etc

What do you like most about your job?

Working with people

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

In 1995 I was a member of FFA and was the number one chicken judge in the state of Mississippi.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Helping an elderly lady repair her roof at no cost to her.  That was a good feeling.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

"Lead Me Jesus" by Greg O’Quin and Ipraize

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Probably work anyway…..a man can only hunt and fish for so long.

What are your current job responsibilities?

Sports Turf Manager for FNC Park and Maintenance Director for OPC.

What do you like most about your job?

Seeing the parks improve and change.

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

I'm an artist and have done many paintings, drawings, and pottery.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Still building fields so every child would have great fields to play on.

What do you like most about your job?

Meeting the volunteers

That I have a BS in Engineering in Computer Science and I love NASCAR and football.  (play fantasy sports for both)

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Hung off of a cliff in San Francisco during a leadership training exercise.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?

Sitting in my sunroom reading a book, watching TV or listening to music, occasionally volunteering and traveling.

Sat on the 5th row, behind the batter’s box at a Brave’s game at Turner Field.

Piddling at home, working in my yard and volunteering at the schools.

Answering the telephone, registering customers and cooking for the staff.

What do you like most about your job?

Working with the OPC/FNC family

Not a thing; I am so boring.

Shopping and of course, getting my hair done twice a week.

 

Chrystal Love-Scruggs Bio

Where did you go to school?

I attended Oxford City Schools c/o 1992.  I have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Rust College in Holly Springs, MS c/o 1996.

What year did you join the staff at OPC?

I started with OPC September 2008.

What are your current job responsibilities?

I am the bookkeeper. I handle ALL financial responsibilities as well as I assist with registration, answering the telephone and wherever I am needed.

What do you like most about your job?

I LOVE the fact that WE are all ONE big happy family at OPC.

Tell us something about you that most people would not know.

I sing.  My sisters and I sing in a Gospel Quartet.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done?

Came to work at OXFORD PARK COMMISSION.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

“Jesus Will Never Fail”

If you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?
